Creativity with Linda

Linda C. a long time member of Midnight Oil Smockers, started sewing at a summer camp sponsored by the FHA (Future Homemakers of America) when she was 11 years old. Her favorite aspect of sewing is the ability to manipulate fabric to her idea of what it can become. She grew up in east Texas. Her mother, a seamstress, would sew matching petty coats for her favorite dresses.

Linda has 2 granddaughters, Natalie and Seraphina, for whom she has sewn many special garments. Both girls were in a Sew Beautiful photo shoot. They can be found in issue #120.

Linda has served the chapter in various positions; President, Wee Care chair, Chair of a Doll Raffle and Program chair. It was during her term as President that the daytime meetings were launched.
She has an antique stitched sampler hanging just outside the door to her sewing room.

As you enter her sewing room through the double doors, you instantly understand this room is well used and full of memories. The big windows allow for the perfect amount of natural light.

Looking to the wall on the right, you find order to her fabric stash. She is ready for any sewing challenge.
She has the spools of thread and the tools to create, sew and complete any project.

Continuing around the room, you find a creative clutter of sewing machines, embroidery machines, computers, ironing spots, etc. Did you spot one of her prize possession? The often coveted antique Singer Featherweight.

Although she enjoys the antiques place strategically around her home, modern technology of computers has a place among her sewing tools.

There is always something of interest to be found wherever a visitor may look. The precious doll dress with the red hearts has a specific purpose; she asks if you can find the mistake...it took me awhile, but I found it.

On the cutting table is her latest creative project.  Everyone is going to want to do this for their next bishop sleeves.

On the wall is another of her antique stitched samplers.

This simple bishop has a surprise under the angel wing sleeves...

She has lined the sleeves with a darling gingham check! Can't wait for her to share this technique with all the members. Maybe a chapter program, a Sew Along or even a weekend retreat somewhere.

This bishop will make some lucky little girl very happy.

Linda shared one of her highlights of sewing was when her hubby suggested she attend a Martha Pullen sewing school! He accompanied her and went fishing while she sewed to her heart's content.

Thank you, Linda, for allowing us to visit your happy place.
